The Snail and The Whale

This half term our Power of Reading is The Snail and the Whale. In this story we meet one tiny snail who longs to see the world and hitches a lift on the tail of a whale. Together they go on an amazing journey, past icebergs and volcanoes, sharks and penguins, and the little snail feels so small in the vastness of the world. But when disaster strikes and the whale is beached in a bay, it's the tiny snail who saves the day. We look forward to see what adventures await!

We are having lots of fun exploring this wonderful book. We have explored the different adventures the characters went on writing postcards and diary entries in role and have even had the chance to develop our descriptive writing skills. We are becoming very good at using adjectives to describe settings, characters and objects and have really impressed our teachers!

Wendesday 1st February 2017

Our day as a Reporter!

Today we all became reporters and travelled to the Beach to find out about a whale stuck in the sand! We thought of some questions to ask the firefighters that rescued the whale and even got to interview the whale and the hero snail. It was a very successful day and we returned home full of lots of information for our reports. We had lots of fun pretending to be all the different characters from the story and all thought of some great questions.

Considering a viewpoint.

Today we were thinking about the Snail from the story ‘The Snail and The Whale’. We discussed the reasons as to why he should stay with his friends on the rock and the reasons as to why he should go on an adventure with the whale. We had great fun debating with each other and even had a conscience alley where the snail walked through the middle and was given many different reasons. At the end of the alley the snail then had to choose whether to stay or go. A very difficult decision!
